For the 2008 season, the majority of the San Jose Earthquakes' home games will be played at Santa Clara University's Buck Shaw Stadium. The stadium was named after Lawrence T. "Buck" Shaw, a legendary former football coach of the SCU Broncos. Through the years, the spirit of Buck Shaw has been kept alive by the many great athletes who have competed on the stadium's turf since the facility opened in 1962. Besides serving as the home for the Broncos men's and women's soccer teams, Buck Shaw also housed Santa Clara football until 1992 and baseball until 2005. The facility also served as a practice site for the Brazilian and Romanian National Teams during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. The Earthquakes seek to continue the great winning tradition set by the many athletes that have played on this field. A select few Earthquakes home games will be played at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum in Oakland. The Coliseum is currently home to the Oakland Athletics baseball team and the Oakland Raiders football team. Over the past 32 years, the Oakland Alameda County Arena and Coliseum Complex has hosted a spectrum of events in both the sporting and entertainment industries including concerts, circus, boxing, rodeos, religious speakers and ice shows. Audiences numbering nearly 100 million have made Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum a premier entertainment facility in Northern California. The Earthquakes are proud to call Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum their home away from home. |
